On Thursday, May 28th, 2015, the Haverhill School Committee approved its FY2016 Budget. In it, the School Committee increased its own expense accounts by 31% and gave raises to various administrators, including a 13% raise to the superintendent which brings his salary to over $200,000 per year. All this while they have spent the past 12 months of negotiations claiming there is no money for increased compensation for teachers, secretaries, or ESPs. See the FY2016 Budget – Haverhill School Committee for yourself and contact the Haverhill School Committee. Tell them to settle a FAIR CONTRACT NOW!
Teachers have been attending City Council and School Committee Meetings for several weeks to demand a fair contract. In addition, members at Bradford Elementary and Haverhill High School have been standing out for a fair contract before report time on Friday mornings to bring our cause to the attention of the community. Others plan to join in the final weeks of the school year, but all who participate have pledged to continue in the fall if no contract is reached. What are the members in your building doing to help complete negotiations? Share your feedback, ideas, or photos of your building’s actions with the HEA by sending them to HavEd@verizon.net.
