This post has been updated to reflect the change of date to June 15th. Though Silver Hill had originally asked to vote on May 4th, the HEA scheduled the vote to take place on May 11th to allow more time for members to consider the issue. It was then decided by the HEA Board of Directors to delay vote until June 15th to allow Silver Hill’s administration more time to complete their application and provide additional information for our members to consider. The vote will take place on June 15th in all buildings with a representative. Teachers in buildings without a representative will have to vote at the HEA office (800 Broadway, #3) between 2:45 and 4:30 pm.
There will be a city-wide vote for all members of the HEA Teachers unit on Thursday, June 15th, to determine whether or not the HEA will approve of Silver Hill’s Horace Mann Charter renewal. This vote will take place in all buildings with a building representative. Teachers in buildings without a representative will vote after school until 4:30 pm at the HEA office, 800 Broadway #3, Haverhill, MA 01832.
The teachers at Silver Hill and Consentino have put together informational flyers representing their arguments for (Silver Hill) and against (Consentino) the charter renewal. Members with questions should contact teachers in the respective buildings for their thoughts on this important issue. As members engage in this debate we must remember that while there are arguments to be made on both sides, we are all on the same side when it comes to wanting the best for all of Haverhill’s students. Together, #WeAreTheHEA.
