On May 17th, the Haverhill Education Association gathered for its annual Honors Banquet and awarded is 6th annual scholarship. The award is raised by HEA members each year and presented to a college-bound Haverhill High School graduate who has attended only the Haverhill Public Schools from 5th grade through graduation.
This year the scholarship committee selected Holly McGrath as its top candidate. McGrath, 18, plans to study fashion design at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in the fall. Her parents, both artists, joined Holly at the HEA Banquet as they were congratulated by members and guests in attendance, including Massachusetts Teachers Association President Barbara Madeloni. Madeloni was the evening’s keynote speaker and spoke to the commitment Holly’s teachers made in her to contribute to her success.
The scholarship, which is no less than $2000 each year, was increased to $2250 after members raised even more funds during the event through a 50/50 raffle.
