I don’t know about you, but I am tired. Tired of being disrespected.
I have been working with the Union Negotiating Team for the last few months on changes we’d like to make to our contract based on the feedback of people who went to high school several months back and shared their concerns.
Yes, we are asking for a raise.
Yes, we are asking for improvements in many areas of our contract.
The problem is that without our membership standing up and making the community, School Committee, and Mayor aware of how frustrated we are, nothing is going to change. Again.
I do not want to have another year without a raise as happened with our last contract. The Union needs people to join the Action Team so we can make sure our voices are heard. Being a part of the Action Team means you will have a say in how we make our voices heard.
Don’t want to hold a sign in front of the school? Wear black on the first day? Put stickers on all the items in the class you’ve purchased with your own money?
Then volunteer for the Action Team and bring your ideas to the table. Teacher unions across the country are making real change happen. Let’s jump on that train and make some meaningful change in Haverhill!
I know many of you are discouraged, but here is your chance to try and bring about meaningful change. If you’ve done it before, try again. It’s YOUR paycheck and contract!
