Over the past two weeks dozens of HEA members have gathered on the corner of Summer and Main Streets in front of City Hall holding signs which read “Haverhill Educators United” and “Fair Contract Now”. Though negotiations with the School Committee continue, little progress can be made without the city first finalizing its next budget, including allocations for the School Department and other city services. HEA President Joe Cunha addressed the School Committee at its May 14th meeting to invite the Mayor and School Committee to join the HEA they solicit the support of the City Council in its fight to increase education spending in the City of Haverhill. Mr. Cunha also presented Mayor Fiorentini with a “Haverhill Educators United” sign. Please consider joining us next on Tuesday, May 19th at 6:30pm as we gather again outside City Hall prior to the meeting of the City Council. You can also support Haverhill Educators in their fight to improve all aspects of Haverhill Education by emailing Mayor Fiorentini at mayor@cityofhaverhill.com and asking him to increase education spending. You can also tell the School Committee that you support a fair contract for Haverhill Educators. Their contact info can be found at www.haverhill-ps.org/school-committee.
