MTA with Senator Warren 7/22/2020

July 21, 2020

Dear Members,

Join union leaders and your colleagues to hear what U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren has to say about addressing the vital needs of students, educators and families as our public schools, colleges and universities prepare for the fall amid the coronavirus crisis. A Facebook Live event for educators, hosted by the senator, is set for 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. Along with Senator Warren, it will feature MTA President Merrie Najimy, American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts President Beth Kontos and Boston Teachers Union President Jessica Tang.

GO HERE to register for this event.

Our three education unions have collaborated on a set of school restart proposals that are now being negotiated with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. As thousands of members have become part of our statewide campaign, we are able to speak with a collective voice in letting the DESE know that the health and safety of Massachusetts students, educators and families will not be sacrificed in order to get back into our school buildings.

We are also working together with members across the state to address the many crucial issues that face students and staff throughout our public higher education system.

Our demands are based on a fundamental commitment: that caring for the health and welfare of everyone in our communities and on our campuses is our Commonwealth’s first obligation.

The health and wellness of students, families and educators is on the line. In fact, nothing short of our lives is at stake.

The discussions we are engaging in with you, the rank and file, are remarkable – and our conversation with Senator Warren will provide a chance for a crucial dialogue as she advances important proposals on funding and other issues in Washington, D.C.

We hope you will join us for this important conversation.

In solidarity,

Merrie and Max
