Good Morning,
Tomorrow, all returning 10-month educators receive their first paychecks of the school year. Per our CBA, health/dental insurance and union dues are deducted over 20 pay periods beginning with the second pay period of the year. As a result, your net pay will be larger in the first paycheck (or paychecks, depending on your unit and payroll selection).
When you receive your pay stub, be sure to check that your personal information (name, address, etc.) and salary are correct. To verify your salary, most educators simply need to take their gross pay and multiply by the number of pay periods in the school year. For ESPs there are 21 pay periods, Teachers choose either 22 or 26. This figure should match your class and step in our Collective Bargaining Agreement.
For all educators who earned longevity under the previous CBAs, checking one’s salary will require some additional steps as our new salary strutcture melds the longevity value into the scale to be paid throughout the year. Over the summer, the Executive Committee was able to review the salaries of all those who received longevity to ensure that they are placed correctly into the scale under the new structure. If you believe there was an error, reach out to the Payroll Specialist Morgan Savage (morgan.savage@haverhill-ps.org). To check that you are being paid correctly:
- Determine your salary from last year’s payscale (FY20) and add to it the longevity payment received in July of 2020.
- Multiply the sum in #1 by 1.0175 (add 1.75%). This product is the minimum FY21 salary. If this value is LOWER than then next step for your class, you will advance to the next step. If this value is HIGHER than the next step for your class, you will earn the higher amount and be “off step”.
- Example #1 – Teacher A is in Class VIII (M+60), step 11, with a salary of $83,167 and $746.48 in longevity for 11-13 years of service:
- $83,167 + $746.48 = $83,914.48
- $83,914.48 x 1.0175 = $85,381.97
- Step 12 for Class VIII is $86,623
- $86,623 > $85,381.97, member is ON step 12 in FY21 and earns $86,623 (moves to step 13 in FY22).
- Example #2 – Teacher B is in Class VIII (M+60), step 11, with a salary of $83,167 and $4,478.88 in longevity for 24+ years of service:
- $83,167 + $4,478.88 = $87,645.88
- $87.645.88 x 1.0175 = $89,169.68
- Step 12 for Class VIII is $86,623
- $86,623 < $89,169.68, member is OFF step 12 in FY21 and earns $89,169.68 (moves to step 13 in FY22).
- Example #3 – Teacher C was a former ESP in Class IV (B+45), step 9 with a salary of $70,390 and $746.48 in longevity for 11-13 years of service:
- $70,390 + $746.48 = $71,136.48
- $71,136.48 x 1.0175 = $72,381.37
- Step 10 for Class IV is $73,787
- $73,787 > $72,381.37, member in ON step 10 in FY21 and earns $73,787 (moves to step 11 in FY22).
- Example #4 – Teacher D was a former ESP in Class IV (B+45), step 9 with a salary of $70,390 and $4,478.88 in longevity for 24+ years of service:
- $70,390 + $4,478.88 = $74,868.88
- $74,878.88 x 1.0175 = $76,179.09
- Step 10 for Class IV is $73,787
- $73,787 < $76,179.09, member is OFF step 10 in FY21 and earns $76,179.09 (moves to step 11 in FY22).
