Sisters and Brothers,
This Labor Day Weekend, our Union has much to celebrate while at the same time many battles still to fight. Over the past year – and especially over the past few months – our membership has grown larger, stronger, and more democratic in its rank-and-file process than ever before. Dozens of members are participating in our Contract Action and Bargaining Teams. Hundreds have joined us for our in-person and remote actions. Thousands have shared stories of our actions and victories and locals across the Commonwealth are looking to the HEArt of Haverhill as a leader in advancing the causes of workplace safety and education justice.
Our labor and commitment to one another is the leverage that gives us the strength to influence policy-makers and affect real change to improve the lives of staff and students across the city. If membership in my Union has taught me anything over the past few year, it’s that when we fight, we win.
Thank you to all who have been coming to our meetings and participating in our rank-and-file process. Our democratic Union is always made better when all are present to lend their voice to the deliberations of the group. By coming to these meetings, every member has an opportunity to contribute to our discussions and help determine the direction of the Association. At the same time, we know that meetings, no matter how many, aren’t enough. Beginning this weekend and next week, our Action Team will be making individual phone calls to members. We want to talk to each of you 1-on-1 about the return to school so far as well as in the future.
I hope that you will all find the time and space to rest and recharge while enjoying the holiday weekend with your families. If you have just 2 minutes between now and Tuesday, please complete our First Week Survey (https://forms.gle/wzC9qkK8CFE7Pcin8).
In Solidarity,
Anthony
